Has anybody ever left owing you money? Have you ever
been the recipient of a scam email, 'phone call, or even letter which has
or could have left you out of pocket? Like some defence? When you
join bandbowner.com you will be able access to a whole section on how
unscrupulous people may try and relieve you of your hard earned money, just
like the little scheme here.. Local Money Laundering This
scam involves pre-payment for accommodation in full and then a refund request.
It generally goes something like this:
You receive a booking for a small/large group (might in rare cases be an
individual) and the client sends you the full payment. Credit cards are the
preferred option for you to take the money but cheques have been know to be used
as the payment method.
Some time after the booking has been made and the cheque of credit card has
cleared the client telephones to say that the booking has to be cancelled and
could he/she have a refund. This is the tricky bit: They ask for the refund,
less any expenses you care to charge, (very generous of them) to be made not via
the credit card or cheque account name you received the money from originally
but to someone else via a money order. So what actually
happens? The cheque or credit card used to make the booking will bounce (it may take some
time but it will bounce and your Bank has the right to reclaim the funds from
your account) and you are left with no booking, no refund payment you chose to
make and you have parted with a refund when you haven't actually received
any money in the first place. How do avoid this? As
soon as anybody asks for a sizeable refund call your bank and give it some
account numbers and let them run a check. If you do feel obliged to make any
payment DON'T its as simple as that.

your working knowledge of your business and a piece of A4 paper, (it might
grow!) divided into 4 when placed horizontally on your desk. I've put one in the
