Fire Regulations for Bed and Breakfast Owners
Fire Regulations for Bed and Breakfast Owners

    We're Nothing if Not Topical!

    We're also topical on bandbowner.com.

Lets take a recent hot potato, The New Fire Regulation Order.

We know from our experience that to try and change legislation once it is on the Statute Book is anon starter. We didn't and never will try this method of altering Government thinking, it just doesn't work. We do seek to influence authority thinking at the correct stage in the process and have met with Government Ministers, Senior Civil Servants, MPs and others when we have thought it necessary. What we don't do as I have said is try and get things amended after they are the law, it will never be allowed to happen.

We thought long and hard about the new fire regulations and how they were going to be applied to B&Bs. We also thought 'how can we best benefit our Members' in this matter and we knew that going for change was not an option. So what did we do? Well.... we wrote every Fire and Rescue Service including the Chief Fire Officers Association in England and asked how they were going to interpret and enforce the new regulation..

We published our original letter here and the responses from the Fire and Rescue Services on the pages following, please feel free to take a look. Because we were perceived by most Fire and Rescue Services
as trying to help both our Members and the Fire and Rescue Services we have managed to broker sensible outcomes for both parties that were previously in conflict. No we didn't change the law, we just used common sense and on one occasion the 'promise' of adverse publicity for that Service.

    Food Safety

The new Food Safety Regulations have proved a trauma for some. We have worked, admittedly at a local level, to try and mitigate some of the pain this new regulation has promised to cause. We have arrived at a junction where a simplified proposal for rationalising the inspection service for B&Bs is almost there. We hope to try and get it adopted across the Country but it wont happen tomorrow, it is however a start.

So if its topical and it looks like causing pain to the B&B Industry you can be assured that we'll be there.

So what's your biggest problem right now?
